Aim of the project: Create an upper steering plateplate for my bike to have a racing design, reduce weight and add adjustable handlebars to fit better on the bike.
Description: On the last year of High Scool I had the opportunity to use a 3 Axis CNC milling machine.
Every student need to bring a project done in AutoCad (2D .DXF format) and export it in G-CODE editing it according to the machine specs.
The task was not easy at the time, having only one Φ6 and Φ3 mm HSS drill bit and not having the serial cable to directly interface with the machine, coolant need to be manually turned on/off and regulated outside the machine and the max speed was of 3000 RPM.
Following this “rules” I had to find a clever design that was fitting the specs of the CNC machine with a basic 2D design and a short G-CODE.
So looking on the market and to racing bikes I created two main designs, one for the track and one for the road.
Results: Unfortunately I dind't had the possibility to make the plate inside the school as with that machine was near impossible to insert more than 250 lines of code manually.
So after finishing school thanks to a friend of mine, I had the possibility to make it from a billet of alluminium 7000 series.
Final product:

The final design, without the key insert and dedicated to the track:
